Title VI Office

The Title VI Office at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is primarily responsible for coordinating the university’s compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This includes providing leadership, oversight, consultation, education, and training to the university community around the topic of Title VI. It also includes helping to ensure that the university responds appropriately and effectively to issues and grievances related to Title VI.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 provides that no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Title VI Misconduct includes discrimination, harassment and related retaliation on the basis of race, color, and national origin, including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics.
