Communications Protocol with Native Nations

Communications protocol for routing correspondence from representatives of Native Nations to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Step 1: Central administration, unit, faculty member or staff member receives any communication from a representative of a Native Nation.

Step 2: The recipient forwards that communication to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Step 3: The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will determine and assign responsibility for crafting a response to the appropriate unit.

  • Communications from Tribal leaders of Native Nations or communications about university-level partnerships, concerns or requests will be handled by the Office of the Chancellor and Public Affairs in close coordination with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

    • Current contact: Chris Harris, Senior Director of Strategic Communications
  • Communications about admissions and scholarship opportunities from members of Native Nations will be handled by the Office of Admissions in close coordination with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
    • Current contact: Andy Borst, Director of Undergraduate Admissions
    • Current contact: Michelle Trame, Director of Student Financial Aid
  • All other communications from members of Native Nations will be handled by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
