Updates to COVID-19 Testing to Accommodate Extended Religious Fasts

A spring break day on campus,. Students gather on the the grass in front of Foellinger Auditorium. A large Block I is in front of the building.

Accommodations are available for students, faculty and staff who are participating in an extended religious fast and are concerned about their ability to produce a saliva sample. Individuals can request to receive a COVID-19 nasal swab test instead.

Students, faculty and staff should call the McKinley Health Center at 217-244-5661 and state that they are requesting the nasal swab test because they are fasting as a religious observance. For other accommodations regarding testing, please contact the ADA Division of the Office for Access & Equity at 217-333-0885. Full testing guidelines are available on the COVID-19 website.

Other resources are available for those who are observing extended fasts for religious reasons. For more information about religious observances, please view the calendar on our website.

Students can receive academic accommodations due to religious observance as well by completing the Request for Accommodation for Religious Observances form. Additional information about this process is available on the Office of the Dean of Students website.
